Skoggin

"Will Skoggin's Skull" was a strip that appeared in issues 23 and 31 of The DFC. Both were written by Ben Haggarty and drawn by John Welding.

The premise of the strip was that a talking skull would tell macabre but tongue-in-cheek stories. The first was "One Man Short", about a travelling packman who meets the Devil and a group of ghostly undertakers; the second was "An Eye for a Profit", about a young man who goes looking for a cyclops to take into captivity for money.

The cancellation of The DFC, which lasted 43 issues, prevented any future "Will Skoggin's Skull" strips from being printed. But the comic's spiritual successor The Phoenix features a somewhat similar strip, "Silk Roads", again written by Haggarty but drawn by a revolving stable of artists.
