Dudley Wasdale Brown was born in Croydon, Surrey, in the second quarter of 1902, the son of Charles Samuel Brown, a miller, and his wife Elizabeth. He was an artist who drew for newspaper comic supplements in the 1930s, including the Boys & Girls Own Yorkshire Evening News and The South Wales Echo. He also drew Rupert Bear for the Daily Express Children's Own in 1933. He died in the third quarter of 1959 in Surrey.
