Champion 374

The Champion Vol XV issue 374, 1929

The Champion was a boys' story paper launched by Amalgamated Press in 1922 under the editorship of F. Addington Symonds, containing illustrated fiction in the sports, historical adventure, war and science fiction genres by authors such as Edward Home-Gall, George Openshaw, C. Eaton-Fearn, Dugald Cumming Skinner and Ted Cowan, all writing under a variety of pseudonyms. A companion paper in monthly pocket format, The Champion Library, was launched in 1929, containing stories from The Champion and its sister paper The Triumph, which lasted until 1940. The Champion absorbed The Triumph in 1942, and continued until 1955. The title was revived as a comic by AP's successor company Fleetway in 1966, but was soon merged into Lion.
