Frederick Stanley Bennett was born in Islington, London in 1876, the son of Henry G. Bennett, a lithographic draughtsman, and his wife Sophia Elizabeth, née Winn. In his teens he worked as a solicitor's clerk, but by 1891 he was working as a draughtsman, and in 1900 he joined the Amalgamated Press as a staff artist, illustrating for story papers like Union Jack, The Marvel, Chums, The Champion, Cheerio, Boys Friend, Boys Herald, Boys Own Paper, Big Budget and The Scout, and drawing for comics including Chips, Merry & Bright, Jester, Puck and The Favorite Comic. As late as 1939 he was illustrating for Wild West Weekly and the Arthur Askey Annual. He also illustrated books and magazines, and was the official artist of the 1929 Boy Scouts World Jamboree. He died in Edmonton, Middlesex, in the third quarter of 1939, aged 63.
