Kit Carson in Cowboy Comics #16, 1950
Christopher Houston "Kit" Carson (1809-1868) was a real-life American frontiersman who very quickly became a fictional character - the first novel about him was published in 1849. There were numerous films made about him in the first half of the 20th century, and a TV series in the 50s.
In British comics, Kit Carson first appeared in The Comet (1950-53), drawn by Geoff Campion and José Bielsa, and Knock-Out, drawn by numerous artists, including Ian Kennedy. He was a mainstay of Cowboy Comics, where he was drawn by artists including Alberto Breccia, Stephen Chapman, Graham Coton and Armando Bonato, among others. There were seven Kit Carson annuals, often featuring art by D. C. Eyles.
