"The Steel Claw", Valiant, 1964
Jesús Monterde Blasco was born in Barcelona, Spain, on 3 November 1919. He started work in comics in the Spanish magazine Mickey at the age of fifteen, and went on to create the series "Cuto", about a globe-trotting boy adventurer, for the magazine Boliche, and a girls' strip, "Anita Diminuta", for Mis Chicas magazine.
In the 1960s he formed the Blasco Studios with his brother Alejandro and Adriano, which produced work under Jesús Blasco's name. He began working with Fleetway in the UK, on strips like "The Steel Claw" and "Buffalo Bill". He created "Invasion!", with Pat Mills, in the first issue of 2000 AD in 1977. In the 70s he drew Western strip "Tex Willer" for the Italian market, and "Capitán Trueno" in Spain. He also drew a handful of strips in Warren Publishing's Creepy in the USA, although they were all miscredited to other artists. He died on 21 October 1995.
His sister Pili was also a comic artist in Spain in the 40s and 50s..
