Bessie Bunter

George Monkieth Dodshon was born in St James Westminster, London, in the second quarter of 1862, and was educated in Kensington. He was working as an artist and wood engraver by 1881. His work started appearing in story papers like the Boy's Friend and the Boys' Realm in the 1890s, illustrating patriotic historical stories like "Britain in Arms", "Britain Invaded", "Britain's Revenge" and "For Kaiser and King". His best known work was for School Friend, where he drew Bessie Bunter stories. He also drew for comics, including Playtime (1919). He died in Brentford, Middlesex, in the first quarter of 1940.
